Dear OSSD Community,
Over the past seventeen school days we’ve responded to fourteen positive cases of COVID affecting 150 students and staff who were identified as close contacts. Because the younger grades are just beginning to get vaccinated, the majority of this activity (85%) has occurred in our elementary schools. The difference in vaccination rates between the elementary schools (nearly 1% of students) and the high school (nearly 72% of students) explains the concentration in our younger grades.
The moral of the story is to please take the time to get your child vaccinated if they are not already protected. Information on the pediatric vaccine from Pfizer, and how to sign up, is available under the 2021 Covid Operating Plan tab in the upper left corner of our website.
The above numbers do not include the cases we are working on today.
The district is finalizing the Test to Stay (TTS) program which allows students who are close contacts to remain in school if they received a negative result on a rapid test each morning during what would normally be their quarantine period. Because the process generates a fair amount of medical waste, it has taken a bit of time to find a company to properly manage the disposal of the used tests. We hope to have Test to Stay up and running by the end of next week.
To support parents seeking vaccination for their younger children (ages 5-11), the district will hold two pediatric vaccine clinics at Randolph Elementary School (RES), the first on December 16th, and the second on January 5th. Both will run from 12 to 4 PM. Parents who sign the consent form do not need to be present for the vaccine to be administered. The district has arranged to bus students from Brookfield and Braintree whose parents have signed the consent forms to RES to receive their vaccinations. More information on these clinics will be forthcoming as the days get closer.
The Winooski Valley Superintendents met this morning to finalize the remaining components of the winter sports protocols. This is to ensure as much consistency as possible between the districts that typically compete with one another. I will email those protocols to the community by Monday afternoon when we send out the revised COVID operating plan.
